The Magical World
history
incantors are humans with magical abilities who exist in secret from the rest of the world, though there have been some close calls throughout the centuries (ie: the salem witch trials). mundanes, as non-magic beings are called, are unable to see spellcasting, mystical beings, and other magic-related places. incantors can see these things thanks to the magical element found in their blood. secrecy of their existance is maintained through strict laws and an entire team of incantors dedicated to the clean up of magic contaminations. some mundane have incantors in their blood lines from so far back they cannot practice magic, but are able to see flickers of it's existance. other spells give off a haze when cast, briefly allowing mundane a peak into the magical world. the consulate (a vast organization of incantors) ensures order remains, punishes those who disobey the rules, and oversee the magical government. the chancellor heads the consulate and is elected into office every three throughout the world by using the portal rune. for more information, see the magic page. some incantors feel that mixing with mundane in this way is demeaning to what it means to be an incantor and are against intermingling. other incantors would love to come out of the shadows and exist in the light, free to use and speak about magic with the mundane. consulate law forbids incantors from marrying the mundane and accidentally revealing the magical world, though one night stands and dating as a means of cover are known to happen. historically, in communities where incantors have been wiped out by venator, it was common to become pregnant by a mundane and raise the child without their knowledge or involvement. aging slower than humans, but not elven, incantors generally live between 150-200 years of age. around age 40-45 they start aging more slowly with each growing year. as they reach end of life their magical abilities wane, becoming less and less. the incantor world don't stop just on incantors, but finding and extingushing all magical beings from existance. in the past five years the venator have resurfaced, hunting down incantors with new technology developed by their current leader alden armstrong. their current numbers are unknown, but thought to be somewhere around five hundred worldwide. seen by most mundane as crazy conspiracy theorists, incantors know how dangerous they actually are. most famous for their different torture devices, they have recently developed a serum that, when injected into something possessing magical blood, activates a virus that liquifies their insides within three days. the consulate is working on a cure, but have had mixed results thus far. |
